THE EFFECT OF LEARNING STYLE MATCH METHOD ON STUDENTS’
SPEAKING ACHIEVEMENT
1. Problem : Low Ability of Speaking of students’ at SMAN 1 Marioriwawo
Phenomena :
Low motivation of students at SMAN 1 Marioriwawo in speaking
Not interesting method in teaching speaking
Monotones of teacher’s during speaking class
Lack of teacher’ control to the students to explore students in speaking
Students’ habit to enjoy speaking Bahasa and Bugines in English Class
especially speaking class
Students are afraid to make mistake while speaking.
Students feel shy, nervous to express their idea in English but in Bahasa or by
their mother tongue they can speak up to show their idea.
The minimum of meeting frequency especially speaking class
The big number of students in each class, more than 20 students so it does
not sufficient to handle the speaking class.
The unavailability of learning source center such us the library and language
laboratory.
The unprofessional English teacher in handling their class, method and
manage their students.
2. Objective of the research
a. To identify whether or not the learning style match method can improve
speaking achievement of students.
b. To find out the students’ learning style at SMAN 1 Marioriwawo
especially at X.1 Class.
3. Background
Speaking is a part of the English language skill. It is as important as listening,
writing and reading. People use speaking to communicate with other members of
their own community or the wider world. One of the learner’s end products in
language learning is to be able to use the language orally. In fact, speaking skill is a
crucial part of the language learning process, and it is also the one skill, which has
often been neglected in EFL classroom. Based on the school curriculum only about
15% the percentage of teaching speaking happen in the classroom.
